The Lifecore CD400 is a compact elliptical trainer that's short on size, but long on club quality features and stride length.

The biggest problem you'll face when trying to find a feature packed elliptical trainer with a compact footprint is the annoyingly small stride length of the most machines on the market.

As I've talked about elsewhere on this website (ad nauseam I might ad) you shouldn't even consider getting an elliptical trainer with a stride length less than 18".

A short stride length equates to a choppy ride, and a choppy ride means you can forget about going fast for more than about 30 seconds (like running the faster you go, the longer your strides will be).

With the new Lifecore center drive elliptical, that problem has been eliminated as it boasts a surprisingly long 21" stride length, while only taking up a modest amount of floor space at 47" long x 29.5" wide...

If you don't know anything about heart rate control on ellipticals, let me be the first to tell you that using a wireless Polar chest strap is the most accurate measure of workout intensity and control (that's why all the machines at the health club use it).

The second, less glamorous, feature of this machine is the fact that it has sealed ball bearings at all its pivot points. While that might not seem like a big deal on a spec sheet, the real world benefits mean that this elliptical is smooth and far more durable than comparable ellipticals that use inferior components.

If you're on the hunt for a compact elliptical trainer that will play nicely in any small space of your home, the Lifecore CD400 is the best machine I've found for the money.
