Weider Crossbow Home Gym (a.k.a. Weider Crossbar, Weider MAX)

The Weider Crossbow home gym was developed by Icon to compete with the Bowflex line of power rod style home gyms.

Like the Bowflex and the Bandflex, the Weider Crossbow utilizes a power rod type set up to deliver the resistance for each exercise that you can easily adjust and move from exercise to exercise.

If you compare the Weider Crossbow to the Bowflex side by side, you'll discover there are some definite quality differences between the two, and it can get even more confusing trying to compare them to each other objectively because they switch their model names and features more often than most people change their underpants (well almost).

The Crossbow used to be a good deal when it was introduced because it was rather inexpensive (around $499), but like most products sold by Icon Fitness that didn't last long. Once they figured out they could make a big pile of money on it they quickly turned this gym into an overpriced, over engineered curiosity.

If the price of the Crossbow makes you balk (and it should), take a close look at the Bodylastics Resistance Bands that I Own as an alternative, it blows this gym away for about 1/8th of the price and you can use it almost anywhere.

The Weider Crossbow home gym claims you can perform over 65 exercises with the standard 240 pounds of resistance (the resistance can be upgraded to a full 440 pounds for an additional expense) but that's a stretch in my book.

Of the 65 exercises not many of them are exactly gym quality. There is no way to make a workout machine that can do 65 exercises and not have to have any compromises somewhere (the rowing feature isn't that great for example).

One of the advantages of the Crossbow vs Bowflex is that the Crossbow comes standard with a leg developer (you will have to change the cable when you use it though), where on most of the Bowflex gyms that same leg developer will set you back a nice chunk of change.

The bottom line on the Weider Crossbow is that there's a less than $100 alternative that I own called Bodylastics. If you're even considering Crossbow do yourself a favor and read my review on the Bodylastics System before you invest one cent of your money and see if you come to the same conclusion I did.
